What do motorized shades cost in Kansas City? (2026)
The cost of motorized shades in Kansas City is decided by three things: how many windows you want moving, the fabric and hardware you choose, and whether the drives are wired or on battery. Sivoia QS across the main level with Palladiom rollers in the rooms where the hardware is visible, aligned as a bank so the hems land on one line, on an astronomical-clock schedule.
Whole-home shade package — 28 shades
Every window that should move, moving: main level, primary suite, upper bedrooms, the stairwell glass nobody can reach. In practice this scope is almost always specified alongside the HomeWorks lighting layer rather than on its own, and at the concierge lighting tier the shade package is already part of the scope rather than a separate project.
Is Lutron worth it over cheaper motors?
It is a fair question, and the honest version of the answer is not about specifications. It is about what happens in year eight, because a shade motor that dies is stuck in the wrong position over a window you look at every day, and the replacement conversation starts with whether anyone still makes a drive that fits your brackets.
- A support record you can check. Lutron has been family-owned since 1961 and manufactures in Pennsylvania; product lines do not get retired to make a quarter. The proof is legacy Sivoia QED shades from the 2000s, which still have a factory upgrade path onto current Sivoia QS drives. That is a demonstrated answer to “will parts still exist,” not a promise about one.
- They behave like a set, not like eight motors. A bank of shades on one wall moves together and stops on a single hem line, and the drive is quiet enough that you notice the light changing before you notice the shade. Inexpensive motors drift out of alignment across a wall and announce every move.
- One system for lighting and shades. The shades run on the same HomeWorks processor as the lighting, so an evening scene dims the fixtures and sets the shades in one press. The alternative is two apps with two schedules that disagree about what sunset means — which is how most homes end up operating the shades manually eighteen months in.
- Schedules that do the work. An astronomical clock closes ahead of the sun instead of after the room gets hot, sun-tracking holds a position that blocks load without losing the view, and geofencing can open the house as you drive home.
Coverage is worth naming plainly: the equipment carries its manufacturer warranty, every install carries our five-year workmanship warranty, and you have our support for as long as you own the system. Shades as part of the lighting system
Most whole-home shade packages are not bought alone. They arrive with the lighting, because the two share a processor, a keypad layout and a set of scenes — and because the incremental cost of adding shades to a HomeWorks project is far lower than retrofitting them to a finished one. The lighting layer is scoped by zone count, and the three tiers read like this — note which one already carries its shades:
- 8-12 zones. A starter HomeWorks install: primary living areas, kitchen and primary suite, right-sized for roughly 2,500-4,000 sq ft. Lighting only — a shade package is scope on top of this tier.
- 20-32 zones. Full whole-home HomeWorks with every fixture group as a zone, keypads in every primary room and scene programming, right-sized for 4,500-8,000 sq ft. Lighting only — same as above, the shades add to it.
- 50+ zones with motorized shades and custom programming. The concierge tier: HomeWorks QSX, a full Lutron shade package, custom keypad engraving, right-sized for 8,000+ sq ft estates. This tier already carries its shade layer, so the shades are not a separate project on top of it.

Palladiom vs Sivoia QS roller shades — what is the difference?
Sivoia QS is the current mainstream line and covers both roller and Roman shades — it is what goes in most rooms in most projects. Palladiom is the premium roller: it is the one specified where the hardware itself is part of the architecture and will be seen, so the bracket, the roller and the fabric are treated as a designed object rather than something to hide in a pocket. Functionally both run on the same HomeWorks system and the same schedules. Palladiom costs more per shade, so where it goes is a design decision made room by room rather than a whole-house one.
Can my old Sivoia QED shades be upgraded instead of replaced?
Usually yes, and it is worth knowing before anyone quotes you a full replacement. Sivoia QED is legacy — it is not the current product — but Lutron maintains a factory upgrade path from QED onto current Sivoia QS drives, so in many homes the fabric, the brackets and the head pockets stay and only the drive and the control layer change. That is a materially different number from tearing out and rebuying twenty shades. We assess it window by window, because the answer depends on the original hardware and how the pockets were built.
Do motorized shades actually cut cooling costs on a west-facing window wall?
That is where the effect is largest, because a west wall takes direct sun through the hottest part of a Kansas City afternoon and radiates it into the room for hours after.
