You already own the Uneekor. Who builds the room around it?

The monitor was the easy purchase. The room is the project.

First visit: does the room take the mount?

This is the only question that can end the project, so it goes first. An overhead unit lives above the hitting zone, which means it is competing with your driver for the same ceiling, and that is why overhead systems generally want the taller room. Nine feet is a workable minimum. Ten is the target. And the number that matters is not your height — it is the highest point your clubhead reaches through a full driver swing, measured by somebody watching, with a buffer added on top.

Then we subtract the room from the tape measure. HVAC trunks, a steel beam, sprinkler drops, recessed cans, and — in a garage — the door tracks, the opener, hanging lights and storage racks. A bay that measures ten feet in the middle of the floor and eight-six under the opener is an eight-six room, because that is where the club goes. Where the numbers do not work, we would rather say so on the first visit than design around a problem that will surface as a dented ceiling.

Width and depth matter less dramatically but they still set the design: 12 feet of width is a hard minimum with 14–15 feet comfortable so the hitting area can be centered for both right- and left-handed players, and 16 feet of depth is workable with 17–20 feet comfortable. Mounting: to the spec, and to actual structure

We install to Uneekor’s published installation specification for your specific model — mount height, offset from the hitting zone, and how the hitting area is framed — rather than to a rule of thumb. Those specs differ between units and get revised, and a monitor installed at somebody else’s remembered number is a monitor producing somebody else’s data.

What the spec assumes, and what we add, is the mechanical part. The mount goes into real structure, not drywall and not a ceiling grid. It goes in level and square, because a unit tilted a degree is a unit looking at a slightly different place than it thinks it is. It goes in rigid, because ball strikes and footfall in a basement will slowly move anything that can move, and a monitor that has crept produces numbers that drift for reasons nobody can find in software. And it goes in reachable — you will want to clean the lens, and you should not have to take the enclosure apart to do it.

Last, we check the mount against the ball path, including the ball path of a shank. A unit that is safe from a good swing and exposed to a bad one is not safe.

The enclosure, the screen, and the space behind it

An impact screen does two jobs that pull against each other: it stops a golf ball at real speed, and it is the surface your course is projected onto. Tension it too tight and it rejects the ball back into the room; leave it slack and the image waves. It wants 1–2 feet of clear space behind it so it can flex and absorb the shot, and that clearance is the single detail most often missing from a screen hung against a back wall.

Around it: a frame anchored into structure where the room allows, side netting with real overlap rather than decorative panels, a ceiling baffle, and padded, protected frame edges. Everyone misses, including good players, so the enclosure is designed for the heel, the shank and the occasional wild one. A matte dark surround finishes it and keeps projector spill off the walls beside the screen, which is worth more to the image than most people expect. Carl’s Place is on our authorized brand list and is usually what we build with — and if you have already bought a kit, we will finish it rather than sell you a second one.

Turf, hitting strip and the floor under both

The hitting surface is the part your body notices. A commercial-grade mat absorbs shock far better than a cheap one and gives the club a more natural feel through impact, which matters most to the wrists and elbows of whoever practices daily. Ideally the strip sits flush with the surrounding turf so your stance is level and natural — a mat that stands proud of the turf quietly changes your setup and then your strike, and it is a common cause of the complaint that the numbers went weird.

Underneath all of it, a level, well-built floor is the quiet foundation. If the floor slopes, bounces or reads uneven, no amount of good equipment makes the room feel finished. Projection, and keeping light off the screen

The projector goes on the ceiling, above and behind the golfer so the swing never throws a shadow across the ball flight, at the throw distance calculated for your screen width so the image fills the screen instead of spilling around it, and out of the ball path. We specify the 4K short-throw laser class — 5,000+ lumens — because an impact screen is a matte, roughly neutral-gain surface with no ambient-light rejection, so brightness headroom and light control are what keep the picture from going gray.

Alignment is physical. Square to the screen, level, on the screen’s center line, adjusted with lens shift. Digital keystone correction is the last resort rather than the method, because it discards pixels to hide a mount that is not straight. The whole diagnosis is in why your simulator projector looks washed out and off-center.

Power, network, PC and climate

The simulator PC needs a real graphics card if you want GSPro or E6 Connect to look smooth on a large screen, and it needs somewhere ventilated to live where you can reach it without walking through the hitting zone. Give it a wired network drop rather than Wi-Fi — course downloads, updates and online rounds are exactly the traffic that suffers when a house network is busy, and it is the cheapest thing in the project to get right during rough-in. Power wants planning too: lighting on its own dimmable circuit so a scene can drop it for play, and the projector, PC and monitor fed properly rather than daisy-chained onto whatever outlet was nearest. And climate is the one people forget until the room is uncomfortable. Basements and garages in this metro swing hot, cold and humid across the year, and extreme temperature and moisture are not good for launch monitors, projectors, computers or golf electronics. Heating, cooling and humidity control belong in the plan rather than in a later phone call.

One button, and the rest of the house

The last piece is the one that decides whether the room gets used. Lights, projector, simulator PC, audio and any motorised screen should be a single scene rather than five chores in three locations. We build that on Control4, Crestron or Lutron depending on what the house already runs — all three are platforms we are authorized on — so “Golf” drops the lights, powers the projector and selects the source, and the room hands itself back afterwards. What it costs, and who warrants what

We quote after a site walk, because the room decides the number. A finished basement with height and a clean ceiling is a different job from a garage bay that needs light control, a circuit and a level floor first, and how much of the enclosure and screen we are building versus finishing changes the number too. Will my room take an overhead-mounted unit?

That is the first thing we check and occasionally the reason we recommend moving the project to a different room. Overhead units mount above the hitting zone and therefore share the ceiling with your swing, which is why they often want the taller room: 9 feet is a workable minimum, 10 feet is the target, and it is the swing rather than the golfer’s height that sets the number. The honest test is a full driver swing with someone measuring the highest point the clubhead reaches, plus a buffer. Then subtract everything already hanging in that arc — ductwork, a beam, sprinkler drops, recessed cans, and in a garage the door tracks, opener and storage racks. If the room cannot hold the mount at the unit’s specified position, we will tell you before we quote anything.

Do you follow Uneekor’s mounting specification exactly?

Yes, and we do not publish our own version of it. Mount height, offset from the hitting zone and the framing of the hitting area are Uneekor’s published specs, they differ by model, and they get revised — so we install to the current spec for your specific unit rather than to a number we memorised. What we add is the part the spec assumes: a mount fixed to actual structure rather than to drywall, level and square, rigid enough that ball strikes and footfall do not move it, positioned so nothing in the swing path can reach it, and reachable later for cleaning and service without dismantling the enclosure.

My numbers changed and nothing was touched. What happened?

Nine times out of ten it is physical rather than electronic. A mount that has crept — fixed to drywall, or to a joist bay that flexes — moves the unit out of its specified position by a fraction and the data follows. A hitting strip worn past its useful life changes how the club interacts with the ball. A mat that is no longer flush with the surrounding turf changes your stance and therefore your strike. A dusty or smudged lens does what a dusty lens does. We check the mount, the mat and the lens before anyone opens a settings menu.

What does the enclosure work involve?

A frame anchored into structure rather than free-standing where the room allows it, an impact screen tensioned to absorb the ball rather than reject it, and 1–2 feet of clear space behind the screen so it can flex on impact — bounce-back is a symptom of a screen pulled too tight or a screen with nowhere to go. Then side netting with genuine overlap, a ceiling baffle, padded and protected frame edges, and a matte dark surround so the projector is not spilling light onto walls beside the screen. Carl’s Place is on our authorized brand list and is what we most often build with; we will also finish a kit you already bought.

What does this cost, and what does the warranty cover?

It depends on the room, how much of the enclosure and screen we are building versus finishing, and how far the control integration goes. An existing finished basement with height and a clean ceiling is a very different job from a garage bay that needs light control, a circuit and a level floor first, and because you already own the monitor, the job sits below the cost of a complete build with the launch monitor included.
