Why IntegrateIT

Why IntegrateIT — and who we are not right for.

IntegrateIT is a home automation and AV integrator in Overland Park, Kansas, serving the Kansas City metro from a showroom and design center at 15108 Glenwood Ave — a Control4 Platinum Dealer with a Control4 Certified Showroom, a Crestron Elite Partner, a Lutron Certified Installer and a CEDIA member. Founded in 2021 by Daniel and Moran Alon; hundreds of homes integrated across the metro since. This page sets out what those credentials do and do not mean, the four things about how we work that you can actually check, and the jobs we will tell you to give to somebody else. Phone: (913) 804-7575.

The credentials, and what each one actually means

Every integrator’s website lists logos. Almost none of them say what the logos certify, which is how a homeowner ends up comparing two companies on badge count. So here is the honest version.

  • Control4 Platinum Dealer with a Control4 Certified Showroom. The tier reflects our standing and training with Control4. The showroom is the part that is directly useful to you: a room on Glenwood Avenue you can sit in and operate before you commit to anything, by appointment.
  • Crestron Elite Partner, with programming done in house. Crestron is the platform where the programming is the product. Elite Partner means the relationship; in-house programming means the person who writes your system works here, which is what determines whether it can be changed in year three.
  • Lutron Certified Installer. Lighting and shades are where most people touch the system every day, and the certification covers the training on specifying and commissioning it.
  • CEDIA member. The trade association for custom installation. Membership is a commitment to the trade’s standards, not a grading of any individual job.
  • What none of them certify. No tier from any manufacturer says a particular system was designed well for a particular house. That gets decided on the walk, by whether the person in front of you measures the room before talking about equipment. Judge the credentials as evidence that we are properly in the trade — then judge the design.

Four things about how we work that you can check

Not values. Practices, each of which is either true of a company or is not, and each of which you can test before signing anything.

  • Daniel designs every system and walks every project. He has twenty years in IT and AV, and he is the person you meet on the walk, the person who specifies the system and the person who sees the site. There is no handoff from a salesperson to a crew you have not met.
  • Our own crew, not subcontractors. The people pulling wire behind your drywall work here. That is also why the wiring gets photographed as it goes and documented rather than remembered.
  • One fixed price, after a no-cost site walk. Equipment, labor and timeline in a written proposal. We will not give you a number over email, because a number given before anyone has seen your ceiling height, your framing and your panel is a guess that gets corrected later at your expense. See how a project runs for the nine phases and what you see at each one.
  • A five-year workmanship warranty with its terms written down. Five years from the date of the final invoice. On a fault that takes a system down we are on site the next business day; on one that degrades but leaves it usable, inside the same week — both starting from our reply. The exclusions are published on the warranty page rather than left vague, and equipment keeps its own manufacturer warranty on top.

Who we are not right for

The most useful thing a page like this can do is save you a phone call. If you are one of these, we are the wrong company and we would rather you knew now.

  • You want a price before anyone sees the room. We do not give one. If a firm quote over email is what you need to proceed, you will be happier with a company that works that way.
  • You are shopping on lowest bid. There is almost always someone cheaper. On this work the difference usually lives in the parts you cannot see afterwards — the pathway, the terminations, the rack, the documentation — which is exactly where it is hardest to compare two proposals.
  • You want a platform we do not carry. We publish the brands we hold dealer agreements on, the lines we carry under distribution, and the one we service but do not sell. If your heart is set on something outside all three, we would rather say so than learn it on your house.
  • You want one television mounted. Genuinely good work, genuinely not what our crew is set up for. A specialist will be faster and cheaper, and we will usually say so on the phone.
  • You want a system you can rewire yourself later. We build systems designed to be supported, documented and handed over — including to a different integrator one day. What we do not build is a platform for weekend experimentation, and that is a real preference rather than a criticism of it.

How to check us, and everyone else

We wrote ten warning signs to watch for when choosing a home automation company and then answered all ten about ourselves in the same article, so it can be used against us as easily as against anyone else. Use it. Ask every company you are considering the same questions, and notice which ones answer in specifics.

Then look for the thing marketing pages never do: an admission. Our per-town pages say where we have and have not completed a project. Where a suburb has no finished work for a service, the page says so and explains what we would be bringing instead of implying a local portfolio that does not exist. Published projects live on our work page, and each one is there because the client agreed to it.

Finally, ask about year four. Who answers the phone, what the documentation covers, whether the programming can be changed by someone other than the person who wrote it, and what happens if you sell the house. Those questions separate integrators far more reliably than a brand list does — and they are the reason we adopt systems other companies left behind often enough for it to be its own service.

Common questions

What makes IntegrateIT different from other Kansas City integrators?

Four things you can check rather than take on faith. Daniel Alon designs every system the company installs and walks every project — you are not handed to a salesperson and then to a crew you have not met. The work is done by our own crew rather than subcontractors. Every project ends in a written proposal with one fixed price for equipment, labor and timeline, set after a no-cost site walk instead of estimated over email. And the workmanship warranty is five years from the final invoice, with the response times written down rather than implied. We are a Control4 Platinum Dealer with a Control4 Certified Showroom, a Crestron Elite Partner, a Lutron Certified Installer and a CEDIA member, working from a design center at 15108 Glenwood Ave in Overland Park.

What do those credentials actually mean?

Less than the marketing suggests, and more than nothing — which is why we would rather explain them than list them. A manufacturer tier reflects a dealer relationship: training, volume and standing with that manufacturer. It says the manufacturer will support us and that our people are trained on the platform. It does not certify that any particular system was designed well, and no tier from any manufacturer does. The Certified Showroom is the one that is directly useful to you: it is a room you can walk through and hear before you commit. Judge the tier as evidence that we are properly in the trade, then judge the design on the walk.

Who should not hire you?

Anyone who wants a price before we have seen the room, because we do not give one and the number would be fiction. Anyone shopping purely on lowest bid — there is almost always someone cheaper, and on this kind of work the gap usually shows up in the wire you cannot see. Anyone who wants a platform we do not carry, or a brand we are not authorized on, because we would rather say so than learn it on your house. And anyone who wants a single television mounted and nothing else: that is real work, it is just not what our crew is set up to do well, and a specialist will do it faster and cheaper.

How do I check any of this rather than trust it?

Read our ten-warning-signs guide and hold us to the same list — it was written to be used against us as much as against anyone. Look at our per-suburb service pages: where we have not completed a project in a town, the page says so instead of implying otherwise. Ask for the documentation scope in writing before you sign. Ask what happens in year four. Ask to see the showroom. And ask any integrator you are comparing us to for the same four things; the answers separate people faster than a brochure does.

Do you take over a system another company installed?

Regularly, and it is a real part of what we do rather than a favor. Systems get orphaned when the original installer leaves the trade, sells the business or stops answering, and the owner is left with hardware nobody will touch. We adopt Control4, Crestron and Lutron systems, and we service and take over Savant systems too, which we do not sell. The first visit is an assessment: what is there, what is still supported, what has to be replaced and what can stay. You get that in writing before any work is proposed.

Where do you work, and how quickly do you respond?

The Kansas City metro on both sides of the state line, from a design center in Overland Park, plus the Lake of the Ozarks and concierge projects in South Florida on scheduled trips. On a warranty fault that takes a system down, we are on site the next business day; on one that degrades but leaves the system usable, inside the same week. Both clocks start from our reply, not from the voicemail. Hundreds of homes have been integrated across the metro since 2021. Phone: (913) 804-7575 or office@integrateit.tech.
