IntegrateIT carries and installs AVPro Edge across the Kansas City metro — the switching, extension and AV-over-IP hardware that gets a picture from a rack in the mechanical room to every television, projector and video wall in the building. One precision first: AVPro Edge is a line we carry and install under distribution, not one we hold our own dealer agreement on, so we do not call ourselves an authorized AVPro Edge dealer. What we are is the people who design the path, certify the cable it runs on and commission the handshake — which is the difference between a system that works and a system that works until somebody changes a streaming box. What we carry and install from AVPro Edge

The catalog is organised by how the video travels rather than by room, which is also how we specify it. We install to order and size the switching to the building — a house with six televisions and a commercial floor with forty are different architectures, not different quantities.

  • MXnet — the AV-over-IP platform. Encoders and decoders on a dedicated managed switch, in four tiers: MXnet 1G Evolution II, MXnet 1G Evolution I, MXnet 10G and MXnet USP. No fixed input or output count, which is why it is the architecture behind video walls, multiview and any house that will keep growing. The whole ecosystem is configured from Mentor, the web interface AVPro Edge builds into every MXnet system, which is what makes a change in year three a login rather than a site visit.
  • AXION — the matrix line. Fixed-size matrix switching for systems with a known, stable number of sources and displays, including a card-based chassis that configures up to sixteen by sixteen. AVPro Edge publishes it for 4K/60 4:4:4 at 18Gbps with HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and HLG, and with independent breakaway audio matrixing. It is the cheaper and simpler answer when the count is not going to move, and we say so rather than sell the network architecture to a house that does not need it.
  • ConferX — the conferencing range. Switching and extension built for meeting rooms, which land in our commercial AV scope alongside the camera, the microphones and the one-button start.
  • HDMI extenders. Getting a signal to a display that is further away than an HDMI cable should ever be asked to go — over structured cable or over fibre — which is most displays in a whole-home video system.
  • Audio hardware. The de-embedding, downmixing and delay work that keeps a television’s soundtrack in step with a separate audio system — the part that makes a room sound accidental when it is missing.
  • USB extension and installer tools. USB over distance for cameras and touch displays in conference rooms, plus the test and installer hardware that turns commissioning into a measurement rather than an opinion.

How the video path gets designed in

We start from the displays and work backwards. Every screen, every projector and every wall gets counted with the resolution and format it actually has to receive, and the longest run in the house sets the extension method. The cable is specified for the bandwidth being asked for rather than for the label on the jacket, pulled during framing where we are lucky enough to be there, and certified rather than assumed. Then the switching is sized with headroom, because the input nobody planned for is always the one that arrives.

On an AV-over-IP system the network is part of the AV system, which changes who owns it. It gets a properly specified managed switch with dedicated capacity — not the modem the internet provider left in the basement — designed alongside the rest of the structured network. All of it lands in a rack in conditioned space with airflow, sequencing and a labelling scheme on both ends of every run, and the as-built goes into your portal so the next person to touch it inherits a map instead of a mystery. Control sits in front through Control4 or Crestron, so a source change is a press rather than a device.

Where it sits beside the alternatives we also carry

  • Against Blustream. Blustream is the other distribution line we carry, and the two overlap honestly. We pick between them on the specific job — the run lengths, the audio requirement, the number of displays and what the existing rack already speaks — rather than on habit.
  • Against a control platform’s own hardware. Control4 and Crestron both sell distribution. Where a house is already deep in one of those and the count is small, that can be the cleaner answer, and we will say so.
  • Against nothing at all. A house with four televisions, each with its own streaming stick, does not need a matrix. The reason to centralise is shared sources, one remote behaviour in every room and a rack you can service — not distribution for its own sake.

HDMI matrix, HDBaseT or AV-over-IP — which do I need?

They are three different bets and we install all three. A straight HDMI matrix is simplest and cheapest and suits a compact house with short runs and a fixed, small number of displays. HDBaseT sends video over a single structured cable to a receiver at each display and holds up over the long runs a big Kansas City house actually has — it is the workhorse tier for most of this work. AV-over-IP puts encoders and decoders on a dedicated network switch instead of a fixed-size matrix, so there is no hard input or output limit, a new display is a new decoder, and video walls and multiview become possible. The trade with AV-over-IP is that the network becomes part of the AV system and has to be built and owned accordingly. We choose from the house, not from the catalog.

What is MXnet, and which tier should I be on?

MXnet is the AVPro Edge AV-over-IP platform, and it comes in tiers that trade bandwidth against latency and network cost. MXnet 1G Evolution II is published at 4K/60 4:4:4 with a minimum end-to-end latency of 4 ms, 16x16 video wall support, HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision, and 7.1 bitstream passthrough — the tier most large homes land on. MXnet 1G Evolution I is the earlier generation, published at 4K/30 4:4:4 8-bit with a 16 ms minimum latency. MXnet 10G is the uncompressed tier, published at 4K/60 4:4:4 8-bit with 8x8 video wall and 16-window multiview — what you specify when a room cannot tolerate a perceptible delay, since AVPro Edge publishes a genlocked mode at a tenth of a millisecond and one to two frames when it is not genlocked. MXnet USP is the universal streaming platform tier, published at 75 ms or under with video walls up to 8x8. Which one you are on is decided by the displays, the sources and the switch, and we size all three together.

Do you use AVPro Edge for video walls?

For getting the picture to the wall, yes — that is exactly what it is for. Sources live in a rack in conditioned space and reach the wall over structured cable or over a dedicated AV network, which is what lets you replace a streamer in year three without touching a single cabinet. Where the canvas is a true direct-view LED wall, the picture is usually mapped across the cabinets by the wall’s own processor and the distribution hardware feeds it as one source; where the canvas is several displays in a grid, the MXnet video-wall modes do the mapping. Settling which of those you have at design is what decides the hardware list, and our video walls and Just Video Walls pages cover the wall itself.

Why does HDMI distribution fail after it is installed?

Almost always the handshake rather than the cable. Every device in the chain negotiates resolution, colour depth, HDR format and copy protection with every other device, and a single link that cannot carry what the source wants to send takes the whole path down — usually as a black screen on one display and a shrug from everyone else. The fixes are unglamorous and they are design decisions: cable certified for the bandwidth actually being asked for rather than for the number on the box, extension chosen for the real run length, the copy-protection and format negotiation configured deliberately at the matrix instead of left on automatic, and firmware held on a schedule across the whole chain rather than updated on one box in a panic. We commission it, document it, and support it afterwards.
