★Authorized Dealer · via Lutron HomeWorks

Ketra · Kansas City.

Ketra is Lutron’s LED lighting brand, and IntegrateIT is authorized on it under our Lutron HomeWorks dealer agreement, across the Kansas City metro. One precision first: Ketra is not a separate contract of ours — it comes with the HomeWorks agreement, which is the only reason the word authorized appears here. What we are is the people who decide which rooms get full-spectrum light, lay out the fixtures, put them on a HomeWorks system and commission the color and the schedule on site. Phone: (913) 804-7575 or office@integrateit.tech.

A housekeeping note, because people still type the old address: ketra.com now redirects to the Ketra section of lutron.com. Same fixtures. Lutron describes a four-channel light engine that moves from about 1,400K to about 10,000K, renders saturated color as well as white, and dims to 0.1%. On a HomeWorks schedule that means the light in a room can be set to track the natural daylight outside through the day, rather than sitting at one white from morning to night.

What we specify and install from Ketra

The current families on Lutron’s Ketra pages, and where each one goes in a Kansas City home:

  • Downlights for new construction — D2 New Construction and D3 New Construction. Recessed fixtures set while the ceiling is open; the D3 is a three-inch fixed downlight with field-changeable optics. The main layer of light in a kitchen, hearth room or primary suite on a new build.
  • Downlights for finished ceilings — D2 Remodeler, D4R Remodeler and the S30 Retrofit Downlight Trim. The routes into a house that is already built, so a renovation can bring full-spectrum light into the rooms that matter without opening every ceiling.
  • Lamps — A20, S30 and S38. The A20 is the lamp Lutron puts in wall sconces, decorative pendants and table lamps, so the decorative fixtures match the downlights around them; the S30 and S38 are the directional lamps.
  • Track — S30 Track Luminaire and S38 Track Luminaire. Accent light for art, a gallery wall or a collection, where the color of the light on the object matters as much as the brightness.
  • Linear — G2 Linear. A compact linear luminaire, including a graze optic Lutron publishes for casting light across a wall or ceiling to bring out texture. Stone fireplace walls, coves and architectural detail.
  • Linear — LS0 Lightbar Slim. A 0.65-inch-profile bar made to length, which Lutron publishes for under-cabinet, bookcase and toe-kick applications — the kitchen and built-in layer that otherwise ends up a different white from the room above it.

We specify and install to order — we hold no shelf stock, and the fixture schedule on your proposal comes off the lighting plan rather than off a catalogue page.

How we design the line in

  • HomeWorks first, fixtures second. Ketra runs on a Lutron control system, and in a home that system is HomeWorks — which is also why our authorization on Ketra comes through our Lutron HomeWorks dealer agreement. The processor, the keypads and the scenes are designed with the fixtures, not after them.
  • Rooms, not the whole house. Full-spectrum fixtures go where people are at both ends of the day and where there is no daylight of its own. The rest of the house gets ordinary dimmed fixtures on the same scenes.
  • Decided before the ceiling closes. New-construction downlights, linear power supplies and runs, and the sconces and pendants that take a Ketra lamp all belong on the drawing at rough-in.
  • The schedule is commissioned on site. The daylight-tracking curve is set against local sunrise and sunset and checked in each room at more than one time of day, because a curve that looks right on a laptop can look wrong over a walnut floor.
  • Supported after handover. When a scene needs changing, or a fixture needs attention, our Lutron service team handles Ketra the same way it handles the rest of the HomeWorks system.

Where it sits in a lighting system

Ketra is the fixture layer; HomeWorks is the system that runs it, and both come under the same Lutron HomeWorks dealer agreement. Above that, a Control4 or Crestron system can put the lighting scenes on the same interface as the audio, video and climate. How we put those layers together across a whole house is on our smart lighting page, and the longer explanation of tunable and daylight-tracking light is in our tunable lighting guide.

Common questions

Who sells and installs Ketra lighting in Kansas City?

IntegrateIT (Overland Park, KS), across the Kansas City metro on both sides of the state line. Ketra is Lutron’s LED lighting brand, and IntegrateIT is authorized on it under our Lutron HomeWorks dealer agreement — Ketra is not a separate contract of ours, and the HomeWorks agreement is the only reason the word authorized appears on this page. We design the fixture layout, specify it, install it on a HomeWorks system and commission the color and the schedule on site. Phone: (913) 804-7575 or office@integrateit.tech.

What makes Ketra different from an ordinary dimmable LED?

An ordinary LED dims but stays the same color. Ketra fixtures use what Lutron describes as a four-channel light engine, which lets one fixture move across a white range from about 1,400K, candlelight, to about 10,000K, cool daylight, and render saturated color as well — Lutron publishes 16.7 million colors. Lutron also publishes dimming down to 0.1%, a Vibrancy control that adjusts how colors in the room are rendered, and a Color Lock feature that monitors the output and adjusts to keep the color consistent over the life of the fixture. In practice that means the light in the room can be set, and moved, rather than simply turned up and down.

What does daylight-tracking lighting actually do?

It moves the color temperature and the intensity of the light through the day on a schedule, designed to track natural daylight outside — cooler and brighter in the middle of the day, warmer and lower in the evening. On a HomeWorks system that schedule is tied to local sunrise and sunset rather than to fixed clock times, so it follows the season on its own. That is a description of what the light does, not a promise about the people under it, and we keep it that way. Our longer guide to tunable and daylight-tracking lighting goes room by room.

Do I need Lutron HomeWorks to use Ketra?

In a home, yes. Lutron lists HomeWorks, Athena and myRoom XC as the control systems Ketra runs on, and the last two are aimed at commercial and hospitality work. That is also why our authorization on Ketra comes through our Lutron HomeWorks dealer agreement: the fixtures and the system that runs them are designed together, and they are specified together. If you already have HomeWorks, Ketra can be added room by room; if you do not, it starts as a HomeWorks design.

Does every fixture in the house need to be Ketra?

No, and we would talk you out of it. The value concentrates in the rooms you use at both ends of the day and the rooms with no daylight of their own — a kitchen and hearth room, a primary suite, a home office, a windowless lower level. Closets, utility spaces and most guest rooms do well on ordinary dimmed fixtures that still answer to the same HomeWorks scenes. Where the fixtures go is a room-by-room decision made on the lighting plan.

When should Ketra be decided on a new build?

Before the ceiling is closed. Ketra comes in new-construction downlights, remodeler downlights and a retrofit trim, and the right one depends on whether the ceiling is open, what is above it and the aperture the designer wants. Linear fixtures need their power supplies and runs planned, and lamps need the sconces and pendants chosen to take them. All of that belongs on the low-voltage and lighting drawings, not on the trim-out day.
