What the processor is doing
Two things, and they are worth separating because people buy the box for the first and benefit from the second.
- Decoding and routing. It takes the immersive soundtrack and sends it to the speakers you have, where they actually are — including layouts that do not fit a standard template, which is most real basements once the ductwork has had its say.
- Measuring the room and correcting for it. Every room adds its own signature: a reflection off a hard side wall that smears dialogue, a bass mode that makes the middle seat boom and the end seat thin. Correction pulls the room’s contribution down so more of what you hear is the mix.
- What it does not do. It cannot move a speaker, absorb a first reflection or add ceiling height. Correction narrows the gap between seats; treatment and placement decide how good the best seat was to begin with.
The order we will argue for
Room, then layout, then treatment, then processing, then the source. It is not a fashionable order because the last two are the interesting ones to shop for, but it is the one that produces the better room for the same money. A reference processor in an untreated rectangle with speakers wherever the joists allowed is polish applied to a problem, and we would rather say so before you buy it than after.
In practice that means the treatment conversation happens at rough-in, when it is cheap, rather than after the drywall is painted, when it is not. It means the immersive layout is planned while the ceiling is open, because overhead speakers are a framing question rather than a shopping question. And it means the room is measured before anything is specified.
Calibration is a visit, not a checkbox
We calibrate last, after paint, treatment and seating, because each of those changes what the microphone hears. Levels and distances first, then the room measurement and correction, then listening — the measurement is where calibration starts, not where it ends. A curve that measures beautifully and sounds thin has told you something, and the answer is usually in the room rather than in the settings.
Then it gets written down. What was set, why, and what the room measured, documented with the rest of the project record in your portal, so the next person who touches the system inherits a starting point instead of a mystery. That, more than any single component, is what makes a reference room stay a reference room in year four.

- A treated room with a real immersive layout. Planned at rough-in, with the overhead layer framed for rather than fitted around.
- Speakers chosen for placement. Wisdom Audio or Sonance depending on whether the room wants a visible reference system or one that disappears into the plane.
- A reference source. A Kaleidescape server carries the lossless soundtrack this box exists to decode.
- Control4 or Crestron Home in front of it. One press, one remote, the processor in the right mode without anyone thinking about it.
- A rack that was planned. Conditioned space, airflow and a wired path — this class of equipment does not belong in a hall closet.

What does a processor like this actually do?
Two jobs. First, it decodes the immersive soundtrack and routes it to however many speakers your room actually has, in the positions they are actually in — which is why it suits rooms whose layout could not be forced into a standard template. Second, it measures the room and corrects for it. A room imposes its own character on everything played in it: reflections off a hard wall, a bass mode that makes one seat boom and another thin. Measurement-based correction reduces the room’s contribution so you hear more of the mix and less of the basement. Neither job replaces treatment; both work better on top of it.
Is it worth it, or should I spend the money on speakers?
Speakers and placement first, almost always. The order that produces the best room for a given budget is: light control and the room itself, then speaker layout and placement, then acoustic treatment at the first reflection points, then processing, then the source. Correction applied to a room with slap echo and speakers in the wrong places is polish on a problem. Applied to a treated room with a proper immersive layout, it is the step that makes the seats sound like each other. We will tell you where you are in that order on the walk, even when the answer is that you are not ready for this box yet.
Do you calibrate, or just install?
We calibrate, and it is the last thing we do rather than the first. Calibration happens after the room is painted, the treatment is up and the seating is in, because every one of those changes the measurement. We set levels and distances, run the room measurement and correction, then listen and adjust — the measurement is the starting point, not the verdict. Then we document what was set, so the next person to touch the system is not guessing. That documentation lands in your portal with the rest of the project record.
Will it work with my Control4 or Crestron system?
Yes, and that is how we install it. The processor becomes part of the room’s scene rather than a box with its own remote: one press starts the projector, drops the screen, sets the lighting palette, selects the input and puts the processor in the right mode. We are a Platinum-tier Control4 dealer and a Crestron Elite Partner with programming done in house, so the integration is written rather than assembled from defaults. A reference processor operated by juggling two remotes is a worse experience than the receiver it replaced.
