IntegrateIT carries and installs JVC D-ILA laser projectors across the Kansas City metro — specified against the room, aligned to the screen and calibrated once the seats are in. One precision first, because the trade is sloppy about this word: JVC is a line we carry and install under distribution, not one we hold our own dealer agreement on, so we do not call ourselves an authorized JVC dealer. What we carry and install from JVC
JVC’s current home lineup is four D-ILA laser projectors and the Reference Series it sells through the custom-install channel. We specify and install to order — nothing below sits on a shelf here, and the model on your proposal comes off the site walk.
- DLA-NZ900. JVC’s flagship D-ILA, with a third-generation 0.69-inch native 4K device, Gen2 8K/e-shiftX and the BLU-Escent laser light source. This is the projector for a dedicated reference room with a large screen and real light control — a room built to deserve it rather than a basement that happens to be dark.
- DLA-NZ800. The same third-generation native 4K device and Gen2 8K/e-shiftX, one step below the flagship. The model we specify most often for a well-executed dedicated theater where the room has been done properly and the budget belongs in the screen and the treatment as much as in the box.
- DLA-NZ700. Native 4K D-ILA on the third-generation 0.69-inch device with the BLU-Escent laser. JVC does not claim e-shift on this one, so neither do we. A strong fit for a mid-size dedicated room, and for a media room that can genuinely be blacked out.
- DLA-NZ500. The entry into the current D-ILA line — native 4K on the 0.69-inch device, BLU-Escent laser, no lamp to replace on a schedule. Where a room is smaller and the screen is sized honestly, this is frequently the right answer and the rest of the budget goes into treatment and seating, where it will be felt more.
- Reference Series (DLA-RS). The custom-install designation JVC lists alongside the NZ models. Same conversation, different badge on the chassis, and it is the one that shows up on drawings from a designer who has specified JVC before.
- What we do not put in a house. JVC also sells DLP laser projectors for other jobs. In a residential theater we specify D-ILA, because the reason to choose JVC in the first place is contrast in a dark room.
How a projector gets designed into a room
The projector is the fourth decision, not the first. The room sets the largest screen the sight lines and the wall will carry. The screen sets the throw distance and how much light has to arrive. Only then does a model number make sense. Doing it in the other order is how a room ends up with a projector chosen from a review and a screen that does not suit it.
- Light control before light output. A dark room with dark surfaces beats a brighter projector in a room with a cream ceiling and a window at the back. Where the room has glass, the shades are part of the projection specification rather than a decorating decision.
- The mount is framing, not shopping. Height, throw and lens shift set where the projector has to live, and that number belongs in the framing conversation while the ceiling is open. A projector hung where the joists allowed and corrected in software afterwards has thrown away the geometry it was sold on.
- The screen is the other half of the picture. We pair JVC with Stewart Filmscreen or Screen Innovations — material and gain chosen for the projector and the room, acoustically transparent where the centre channel belongs behind the picture.
- A wired signal path. A long HDMI run to a ceiling is a rough-in question. We pull it once, at framing, with a spare, because the second attempt is drywall work.
- Calibration at the end. After paint, treatment and seating, because each of those changes the measurement. Then it is documented in your portal.
Where JVC sits beside the other lines we carry
We carry both sides of the projection argument and have no reason to push one. JVC’s case is contrast in a room that can go properly dark, which is the case a dedicated theater is built to make. Where a room runs brighter, or the owner wants the specific look of Sony’s native 4K SXRD, we carry and install Sony laser projection too, and we will tell you which way the room points before anything is ordered.
Where the room cannot be darkened at all, the honest answer is not a projector. That is a large panel — the Sony BRAVIA , LG OLED and Samsung Neo QLED lines we also carry — or, where the image has to be larger than any panel makes and the lights stay on, direct-view LED. Three different answers to three different rooms, and the walk is what tells us which room you have.

Which JVC projector is current, and which one suits my room?
JVC lists four D-ILA laser models today — the DLA-NZ500, DLA-NZ700, DLA-NZ800 and DLA-NZ900 — plus the Reference Series DLA-RS models it sells through the custom-install channel. The NZ7, NZ8 and NZ9 that the internet still argues about are marked Archived on JVC’s own pages, so if a proposal quotes you one, ask when it was written. Which of the four suits your room is a light-and-geometry question rather than a shopping one: screen size and gain, throw distance, how dark the room can genuinely go, and whether the ceiling gives a clean mount at the right height. We measure before we specify, and in a smaller, well-controlled basement the answer is often a model below the one that was on the wish list.
What does “native 4K D-ILA” actually mean here?
D-ILA is JVC’s own reflective imaging technology — it expands the acronym as Digital Image Light Amplifier — and the current models use a native 4K device, meaning the panel itself has the pixels rather than shifting a lower-resolution image to imply them. On top of that, JVC states Gen2 8K/e-shiftX on the DLA-NZ900 and DLA-NZ800 only; the DLA-NZ700 and DLA-NZ500 pages state native 4K and do not claim it, so neither do we. The light source across the line is JVC’s BLU-Escent laser, which is why these do not have a lamp to replace on a schedule. Beyond that we quote no numbers we have not read on JVC’s page, and none of it matters as much as the screen you point it at.
Does a projector still make sense, or should I put in a big television?
It depends entirely on whether the room can go dark, and that is a construction answer rather than a preference. A dedicated room with light control, dark surfaces and a proper screen is where projection wins and keeps winning, because the image is larger than any panel makes and the contrast holds. A media room with windows, can lights and a sightline into a lit kitchen is a room for a large panel, and we will say so. Projection still earns a media room in one case: the room can genuinely be blacked out, or a short-throw laser is paired with an ambient-light-rejecting screen. We size against the seating distance and the room’s worst-case ambient light, then choose.
Do you calibrate the projector, or just hang it?
We calibrate, and it happens last — after paint, after treatment, after the seating is in, because every one of those changes what the room does to the light. Alignment to the screen edges comes first, then the grayscale and gamma work in the room’s own conditions, then a listen and a look at real material rather than test patterns alone. Then it gets written down and lands in your portal with the rest of the project record, so the next person to touch the room inherits a starting point instead of a mystery. Every install carries a five-year workmanship warranty from the final invoice; the equipment carries its manufacturer warranty.
Can the projector be part of a one-press scene?
That is how we install it. One press on a Control4 or Crestron Home keypad wakes the projector, drops the screen, closes the shades, takes the lighting to its palette, selects the source and puts the processor in the right mode — and the same press in reverse puts the room back. We are a Control4 Platinum Dealer with a Control4 Certified Showroom and a Crestron Elite Partner with programming done in house, so the integration is written rather than assembled from defaults. A reference projector operated with its own remote beside three others is a worse room than the one it replaced.
