Bucyrus · Miami County estates
Bucyrus · estate lots just south of Johnson County.
IntegrateIT is a home automation, AV and networking integrator serving Bucyrus, Kansas, about twenty minutes south of the design center at 15108 Glenwood Ave, Overland Park — some of the closest acreage work we do. Properties run to several acres with long drives and detached shops, so coverage is engineered rather than purchased: cabled paths to each structure, estate-scale lighting and audio, cameras at the drive. Control4 Platinum Dealer, Crestron Elite Partner, Lutron Certified Dealer, CEDIA member, HTA Certified. Five-year workmanship warranty. (913) 804-7575.
Bucyrus is a crossroads more than a town, the acreage country of northern Miami County just below the Johnson County line. The properties are what define it: several acres apiece, long driveways, detached shops and barns, well water in many cases, and custom houses built with more square footage than any suburban lot would allow. Estate-scale is the norm rather than the exception. It is about twenty minutes south of our Overland Park design center, which makes this some of the closest acreage work we do.
Installing in Bucyrus
What is different about Bucyrus houses
Installing in Bucyrus is different because the network has to cover land, not rooms. A house here may be large on its own, but the real distance is from the house to the shop, the gate and the far side of the pasture. That means a hardwired or fiber path out to each building, outdoor-rated access points aimed at the areas people use, and a router capable of holding sessions as devices move across the property. No stack of mesh nodes covers acres.
The driveway itself becomes part of the system. When the house sits several hundred feet off the road, an owner wants to know who is at the gate, wants to open it from a phone, and wants a camera that can read a vehicle at night. So access control, intercom and camera coverage at the entrance get designed alongside the lighting and audio, with power and cable planned to the gate at the same time as everything else rather than as an afterthought.
The houses reward pre-wire because they are big enough that retrofit gets expensive fast. Estate-scale plans have long horizontal runs, multiple mechanical spaces and ceiling structures that are not obvious from below. Being in the drawings early lets us reserve a real equipment room, place conduit before the trusses are covered, and put speaker and shade runs in the ceilings while they are open. Everything after drywall in a house this size costs several times as much.

Questions from Bucyrus homeowners
How do we cover several acres with one network?
- By running cable to the places that need coverage instead of extending wireless from the house. We put a real path, often fiber for the longest legs, out to the shop, the barn and the gate, land access points there, and use outdoor-rated units for the yard and drive. The property then runs under one network name, and devices hand off as you move around it.
Can you put a camera and intercom at the end of the driveway?
- Yes, and it is worth planning at the same time as everything else. We run power and cable to the gate, add a camera with the lens and infrared appropriate for reading a vehicle at night, and tie the intercom and gate control into the same app that runs the house. Doing it during a build is a trench; doing it afterward is a much longer conversation.
Is Bucyrus far from your office?
- Not at all, which surprises people given how rural it feels. Our showroom and design center are on Glenwood Avenue in south Overland Park, roughly twenty minutes north. That makes Bucyrus regular territory, with no-cost site walks and normal business-hours service. It also means these estate systems get the same responsiveness a house inside the city would get.
We are building. What do you need from our builder?
- Chase space, a real equipment room with power and ventilation, conduit paths to the attic and out to the outbuildings, and a slot in the schedule between framing and insulation. In a house this size those requests cost the builder very little and save an enormous amount later. We would rather be in the drawings during design than solve the same problems with a drywall saw.
