What a project like this involves

A security project pairs a monitored alarm panel with the doors, windows and motion zones the house actually needs, keypads where people come in, and sensors that report to the phone as well as the monitoring station.

Where there is a control system, the alarm joins it: arming at night from the bedside keypad, the lights coming up on an alarm, and the cameras recording the event.

• Security. A monitored alarm panel with door, window and motion sensors, keypads at the entries, and the panel tied into the control system.
• Networking. A wired backbone with ceiling-mounted access points placed for coverage, a managed switch, and a separate lane for the smart devices.
• Surveillance. Cameras at the entries and the perimeter recording locally, viewable on the phone and on the house screens.
• Access control. Readers, locks and gates that open for the right people and log who came through.
• Control system. The layer that ties the rooms together: one app, keypads and scenes, so lighting, audio, video and shades answer to the same press.
