Prairie Village · Residential automation
Prairie Village · automation that feels like a house, not a control panel.
IntegrateIT is a smart home and AV installer serving Prairie Village, Kansas, from a design center at 15108 Glenwood Ave in Overland Park, a short drive south. Control4 Platinum Dealer, Crestron Elite Partner, Lutron Certified Dealer, CEDIA member and HTA Certified, founded in 2021 by Daniel and Moran Alon. The everyday work here is retrofit into finished postwar homes — concealed cabling, lighting, home theater, networking, and outdoor displays and patio audio rated for the exposure. Five-year workmanship warranty. Call (913) 804-7575.
Prairie Village went up fast after the war, block by block, and Johnson County has been living in those houses ever since. The stock is mostly ranches, Cape Cods and story-and-a-halves on modest lots under old trees, so the work here is retrofit into a finished home rather than pre-wire. Our design center in Overland Park is a short drive south, which means a site walk usually lands the same week you call. It also means service is quick, and we can bring a keypad sample to your kitchen instead of describing it over the phone.
Installing in Prairie Village
What is different about Prairie Village houses
Installing here is different because the walls were built before anyone planned for a rack. Postwar Prairie Village homes tend to be lath and plaster on the main level with drywall in later additions, and the framing runs are short and interrupted. We plan the pull before we cut, using closets, chases behind the stair and existing HVAC boots to move cable between floors. Where a run would cost more trim work than it is worth, wireless Lutron control does the job instead. The goal is a finished house that looks untouched when the crew leaves.
Lots here are close together, and that shapes the network more than square footage does. Wireless spectrum in this part of Johnson County is crowded, with neighboring routers on the same channels bleeding across property lines, so a cheap mesh kit fights for air the moment everyone gets home. We survey before we place anything, put access points on wire rather than repeating, and separate the smart devices onto their own lane so a doorbell camera cannot slow the family video call. Coverage gets designed for your house, not for a box specification.
Outdoor audio here is a neighbor question as much as a coverage one. On a typical Prairie Village lot the patio speaker is close to the fence line, so we use more small sources at low level instead of two loud ones aimed across the yard. Landscape speakers set into beds keep the sound where people sit. Inside, the finished basements common to these houses make good theaters once the ceiling height and the beam locations are measured honestly, and we would rather tell you the room is wrong than sell you a screen that will not fit.

A media room, a dedicated theater and a reference build are three different projects. What separates two identical basements is the room, not the equipment list.

The 25-year home tech plan
A kitchen from 2002 is still a kitchen. An automation system from 2002 is in a landfill. That asymmetry is a design choice.

Questions from Prairie Village homeowners
How quickly can someone come look at my Prairie Village house?
- Usually within the same week. Our design center sits in Overland Park, a short drive south of you, so a site walk here is a normal part of the day rather than a trip. Daniel walks the house himself, looks at the panel, the attic and the basement, and talks through what the home will actually take. The walk costs nothing and ends in a written proposal with one fixed price.
Can you wire a fifties ranch without tearing up the plaster?
- In most cases, yes. We look for the paths the house already gives us, closets, chases, soffits and the basement ceiling, and we pull there first. Where a wall genuinely cannot open without damage, wireless lighting control and battery shade options cover the gap. Anything we do open gets patched by people who patch for a living, so the repair is not something you notice later.
My Wi-Fi drops in the back bedroom. Is that the router?
- Usually it is placement and interference, not the box. On lots this close together, neighboring networks share the same channels, and a single router in the basement is asking a lot of plaster and ductwork. We survey the house, place wired access points where the coverage actually falls off, and give cameras and smart devices their own lane so they stop competing with laptops and streaming.
Is my basement good enough for a real theater?
- That depends on ceiling height, beam placement and how the ductwork runs, and we measure all three before promising anything. Many Prairie Village basements work beautifully once the seating rows and screen size are set against the real dimensions. Some are better served by a comfortable media room with a large display. We will tell you which one your house is during the walk.
