Fort Leavenworth · Historic Army post
Fort Leavenworth · flexible systems for historic quarters.
IntegrateIT is a smart home and AV installer serving Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, a drive northwest of the design center at 15108 Glenwood Ave, Overland Park. Residents rotate through on assignments, so we build reversibility in from the start and treat historic quarters as historic first: wireless lighting, audio and cameras that leave no permanent changes, with concealed in-wall work only where the quarters and the post allow it. Control4 Platinum Dealer, Crestron Elite Partner, Lutron Certified Dealer, CEDIA member, HTA Certified. Five-year workmanship warranty. (913) 804-7575.
On the post at Fort Leavenworth, the housing is unlike anywhere else we work: quarters on the oldest active Army installation west of the Missouri River, some of them dating to the nineteenth century, alongside newer family housing. Residents rotate through on assignments, so the useful question is rarely what a house could support permanently, but what a family can put in, live well with, and leave behind cleanly. We are a drive northwest of our Overland Park design center, and we handle these projects with the reversibility built in from the start. Historic quarters get treated as historic first.
Installing in Fort Leavenworth
What is different about Fort Leavenworth houses
Installing here is different because permanence is usually the wrong goal. A system designed for a family on assignment should improve daily life without altering the structure: wireless lighting control that replaces a switch and can be swapped back, networked audio that needs no in-wall cable, cameras and smart locks that install and uninstall without a trace. We are explicit in the proposal about what stays with the quarters and what travels with you, so there are no arguments at the end of a tour.
The older quarters are genuinely historic buildings, and they behave like it. Plaster over lath, thick masonry walls, original trim and no consistent stud bay all make in-wall pulls a poor first choice. We plan around the plaster rather than through it, use the paths the building already offers, and choose hardware that reads as period-appropriate rather than as equipment stuck to the wall. Anything that does open gets restored to the condition we found it in.
Housing here also comes with rules that a private home does not have, so we start by asking what the housing office allows rather than guessing. Approval requirements, restrictions on structural changes and expectations at move-out all shape the design, and they are easier to satisfy when they are part of the plan from day one. Once that is clear, the system itself is straightforward, and it can be documented so the next family or the office knows exactly what is there.

The 25-year home tech plan
A kitchen from 2002 is still a kitchen. An automation system from 2002 is in a landfill. That asymmetry is a design choice.

Questions from Fort Leavenworth homeowners
Can anything be installed in on-post quarters?
- Often, but the housing office sets the terms, so that is where we start. We ask what is permitted before designing, favor equipment that installs and removes without altering the structure, and document what was added. If something you want is not allowed, we will say so during the walk rather than after the work is scheduled.
We move in a couple of years. Can the system come with us?
- Much of it can. Wireless lighting control, networked speakers, cameras and smart locks are designed here to be reversible, and we keep the original hardware so the quarters go back the way they were. We label everything and hand you documentation, so reinstalling at the next duty station is straightforward rather than a puzzle.
The quarters are historic. Will you damage anything?
- That is exactly what we plan against. Plaster, original trim and masonry walls get worked around rather than through, using the paths the building already offers. Hardware is chosen so it does not look like equipment bolted onto an old room. Anything opened is restored, and we would rather propose a wireless solution than cut a historic wall to save ourselves time.
Do you come up to the post for service?
- Yes. Fort Leavenworth is inside our regular service map, a drive northwest of the Overland Park design center. Issues are often resolved remotely because the system is monitored, and when hands are needed we schedule a visit and clear access ahead of time. The five-year workmanship warranty and manufacturer product warranties apply here the same as anywhere.
