Leavenworth · First city of Kansas
Leavenworth · Victorian homes and new builds both.
IntegrateIT is a smart home and AV installer serving Leavenworth, Kansas, a drive north from the design center at 15108 Glenwood Ave, Overland Park, up the Kansas side of the river. The historic houses are genuinely old, so cable routing means finding the paths the house already has: old chases, stacked closets, basement joist bays — alongside pre-wire on newer builds. Control4 Platinum Dealer, Crestron Elite Partner, Lutron Certified Dealer, CEDIA member, HTA Certified. Five-year workmanship warranty. (913) 804-7575.
Leavenworth was the first incorporated city in Kansas, and its housing stock shows every decade since. Victorian and turn-of-the-century homes stand on the older streets near the Missouri River bluff, mid-century and postwar neighborhoods fill in behind them, and newer construction spreads toward the county roads, all of it shaped by the fort's long presence. Brick, plaster and tall ceilings are common in the historic core. It is a drive north from our Overland Park design center, up the Kansas side of the river.
Installing in Leavenworth
What is different about Leavenworth houses
Installing here is different because the historic houses are genuinely old, not merely dated. Balloon framing, plaster over lath, brick party walls and tall ceilings mean cable routing is an exercise in finding the paths the house already has: old chases, closets stacked between floors, and basement joist bays. We map those before quoting, keep any penetration where trim or a fixture hides it, and accept that some rooms will get wireless lighting control rather than a new run.
Ceiling height and room proportion change the audio and video plan. A Victorian parlor with twelve-foot ceilings and hard plaster surfaces sounds nothing like a modern great room, so speaker placement and count matter more than raw power, and in-ceiling speakers may sit too far above the listener to be the right answer. We often choose a different speaker approach room by room here rather than repeating one layout through the house.
Third, the newer parts of the city are ordinary, welcome pre-wire work. Recent builds on the outskirts take a full structured-cabling package at framing, with an equipment location that has power and airflow, access points by level and camera drops at the corners. The same company handling both ends of the city means a homeowner moving from a historic house to a new build does not have to relearn how their system works.

The 25-year home tech plan
A kitchen from 2002 is still a kitchen. An automation system from 2002 is in a landfill. That asymmetry is a design choice.

Questions from Leavenworth homeowners
Can a Victorian house here take modern lighting control?
- Yes, and usually without rewiring the whole place. Wireless Lutron controls replace the existing switches, including in homes with no neutral wire, which is common in this housing. Where a wired run is clean we do it wired. Keypads come in finishes that suit period trim, and we review those with you before ordering so the hardware reads as part of the house.
How far is Leavenworth from your office, and does that affect service?
- It is a drive north from Overland Park and well within the area we cover. After an install, the network and system are remotely monitored, so most questions get resolved without anyone coming out. When a visit is needed it gets scheduled like any other appointment. Distance affects trip planning, not whether you get supported.
Our plaster is original and we do not want it damaged. How do you handle that?
- By walking the routes before cutting anything and by being honest when a path does not exist. We use attics, basements and existing chases first, plan penetrations where trim covers them, and include patching in the scope rather than treating it as a surprise. If a room cannot be reached cleanly, we tell you and design that room differently.
The rooms are tall and echo. Will in-ceiling speakers sound right?
- Sometimes, but not always, and in a tall Victorian room they can end up too far from the listener with a lot of hard surface in between. We look at ceiling height, plaster and furniture before choosing, and we may recommend a different speaker type or placement in those rooms. The point is a room that sounds correct, not a matching grille in every ceiling.
