Gladstone · Clay County Northland
Gladstone · established Northland homes, brought current.
IntegrateIT is a smart home and AV installer serving Gladstone, Missouri, a drive north across the river from the design center at 15108 Glenwood Ave, Overland Park. Almost nothing in the near Northland was built with a network in mind, so the work is retrofit through basements and attics: wireless lighting where there is no neutral, in-ceiling audio, a surveyed wired network. Control4 Platinum Dealer, Crestron Elite Partner, Lutron Certified Dealer, CEDIA member, HTA Certified. Five-year workmanship warranty. (913) 804-7575.
Gladstone anchors the near Northland, a Clay County city just north of the Missouri River whose housing went up mostly in the postwar decades. Ranches, split-levels and traditional two-stories on tidy suburban lots make up the bulk of it, with Colonial Revival pockets and newer infill scattered through. Nearly every house has a basement, and almost nothing here was built with a network in mind. It is a drive north across the river from our Overland Park design center.
Installing in Gladstone
What is different about Gladstone houses
Installing here is different because the work is an upgrade to a house that is already finished. Gladstone homes predate structured wiring, so lighting control, audio, cameras and networking all arrive as retrofit work. The upside is that these are cooperative houses: conventional framing, full basements and short runs make routing predictable. We use the basement ceiling and the attic as the spine, and we say up front which rooms will use wireless controls instead of a new wired run.
Lower levels are the most underused rooms in the city. A Gladstone basement usually has a flat ceiling, no windows to fight and enough depth for seating, which makes it a natural media room or theater. Many were finished decades ago, so the work goes through the existing ceiling with the patching planned in. We measure ceiling height, beams and duct runs before promising a layout, because those three decide the screen size and the seating rows.
Third, coverage is a frequent complaint. A split-level or a long ranch defeats a single router sitting wherever the internet enters the house, and adding a mesh unit at the other end only passes along a weak signal. We cable access points into the levels that need them, extend to the garage and back yard, and separate cameras, doorbells and thermostats onto their own lane so the family's devices are not competing with them.

What a home theater really costs
A media room, a dedicated theater and a reference build are three different projects. What separates two identical basements is the room, not the equipment list.

The 25-year home tech plan
A kitchen from 2002 is still a kitchen. An automation system from 2002 is in a landfill. That asymmetry is a design choice.

Questions from Gladstone homeowners
Is our postwar ranch a candidate for lighting control?
- Very much so. Wireless Lutron controls replace the existing switches and work in homes without a neutral wire, which is common in this housing. Where a wired run is easy, we do it wired. The result is keypads that look like they belong in the room rather than an app bolted onto a house that was not built for it.
Our basement is finished. Can it become a theater anyway?
- Yes, and it is often the best room in the house for one. We work through the existing ceiling and plan the drywall repair into the job rather than treating it as a surprise. Ceiling height, beam placement and duct runs get measured first, because those determine whether the room wants a projector and screen or a large display.
Do you cross the river for Northland work?
- Routinely. Gladstone is within our normal Kansas City service area, and the drive from Overland Park is ordinary. Site walks are at no cost, and once a system is running, monitoring and remote support often resolve issues without a truck. When hands are needed, the visit is scheduled like any other metro appointment.
