Riverside · Platte County riverfront

Riverside · riverfront lots, connected homes.

IntegrateIT is a smart home and AV installer serving Riverside, Missouri, a drive north from the design center at 15108 Glenwood Ave, Overland Park. Trees, grade and river proximity shape more of the work here than square footage does, so access points are cabled by level on the climbing streets, lighting and audio are retrofitted into mid-century houses, and newer construction on the higher ground gets a proper pre-wire. Control4 Platinum Dealer, Crestron Elite Partner, Lutron Certified Dealer, CEDIA member, HTA Certified. Five-year workmanship warranty. (913) 804-7575.

Riverside occupies the Missouri River bottoms and the bluffs above them in Platte County, just across the river from downtown Kansas City. It is a small city with an outsized mix of terrain: flat riverfront land, steep wooded hillsides, and residential streets that climb quickly, with housing from mid-century originals through newer construction on the higher ground. Trees, grade and river proximity shape more of the work here than square footage does. It is a drive north from our Overland Park design center.

Installing in Riverside

What is different about Riverside houses

Installing here is different because the ground moves under the coverage plan. Houses on the bluffs are stacked vertically, often with a walkout lower level cut into the hillside and a yard that falls away behind it, so a single access point on a main floor leaves the basement and the back yard dark. We cable points by level rather than by footprint, and we include the deck, the walkout and the driveway coming up from the road in the design.

Trees are the second factor. Heavy canopy on the hillsides absorbs wireless signal and blocks the sightlines an outdoor camera needs, and it changes seasonally, so coverage that works in March can fail in July. We place outdoor access points and cameras with that in mind, run cable to them rather than relying on a relay, and aim cameras at the paths a person actually takes instead of trying to watch an entire wooded lot.

Third, the older houses near the flat river ground are honest retrofit jobs. Frame construction with additions, low basements and limited closet space mean routing is found rather than assumed, and the equipment location needs real thought since damp lower levels are not kind to electronics. We choose a ventilated, dry spot for the rack, run through joist bays and attics, and use wireless lighting where a wall is not worth opening.

The kind of work we do in Riverside

  • 01

A cabled network with access points placed by level across a walkout home on a slope

  • 02

Lighting control and whole-home audio retrofitted into an established house

  • 03

Camera coverage planned around a wooded lot and a driveway climbing from the road

Questions from Riverside homeowners

Our walkout basement has no signal. Why does that keep happening?

Because a walkout is half below grade, and the signal from the floor above has to pass through framing, ductwork and earth. Adding an extender upstairs does not fix it. A cabled access point on the lower level does, and it also carries coverage out to the deck and the yard behind the house, which is usually the second complaint people raise.

The trees kill our Wi-Fi in summer. Is there anything to do about it?

Yes, mostly by not asking the signal to travel through the canopy. We put access points where the coverage is needed and connect them with cable, so leaves are no longer in the path. Outdoor cameras get placed with the same logic, aimed at drives and doors rather than across a wooded lot where a branch will eventually obscure the view.

Do you cover Platte County from Overland Park?

Regularly. Riverside is inside our normal Kansas City service area, and crossing the river is part of the routine rather than an exception. The site walk is at no cost, and because the grade and the trees here matter so much to the design, that walk is where most of the important decisions get made.
