Weatherby Lake · Private lake community
Weatherby Lake · the dock is a zone, same as the kitchen.
IntegrateIT is a smart home and AV installer serving Weatherby Lake, Missouri, a run north through the Northland from the design center at 15108 Glenwood Ave, Overland Park, close enough that service is routine. The houses face the same water, so the waterfront becomes a zone the system has to reach: weather-rated audio to the dock, outdoor-rated access points, cameras across the shoreline. Control4 Platinum Dealer, Crestron Elite Partner, Lutron Certified Dealer, CEDIA member, HTA Certified. Five-year workmanship warranty. (913) 804-7575.
Every house at Weatherby Lake faces the same water, and that single fact drives what we design here. The private Platte County lake dates to the nineteen thirties, and the homes around it range from small original cottages that have been added onto for generations to full rebuilds with window walls aimed at the view. Docks, boat lifts and a shoreline change the shape of a system: the waterfront becomes a zone, and the network has to reach it. From our Overland Park design center it is a run north through the Northland, close enough that service is routine.
Installing in Weatherby Lake
What is different about Weatherby Lake houses
Installing here is different because the lakefront side of the house is mostly glass. Big window walls mean heat, glare and privacy questions that motorized shades answer better than anything else, and they mean displays have to be placed where the light will not defeat them. We look at the room's orientation and the time of day you actually use it before choosing a screen or a projector. Shades on the water side get put on schedules that follow the season rather than a fixed clock.
The other half of the design happens outside. Audio on a dock, a patio or a boathouse has to survive Missouri winters and constant moisture, so speakers get chosen for exposure and cable terminations get sealed properly rather than taped. Wireless coverage has to reach past the boat lift, which no indoor router does, so we run cable to an outdoor-rated access point at the water. Cameras aimed at the dock and the lift are common, and they record on site.
Many of these houses have been extended in stages over decades, which makes the interior wiring more interesting than the age alone suggests. Framing changes at each addition, ceiling heights step, and there is rarely one clean vertical chase from bottom to top. We trace the routes on the walk, use what the house offers, and accept wireless lighting control where the geometry defeats a pull. Lower levels facing the water often make excellent media rooms once the light is under control.

The 25-year home tech plan
A kitchen from 2002 is still a kitchen. An automation system from 2002 is in a landfill. That asymmetry is a design choice.

Questions from Weatherby Lake homeowners
Can I get music and Wi-Fi all the way down at the dock?
- Yes, and it should be wired to get there. We run cable from the house to an outdoor-rated access point near the water instead of hoping a signal carries, and dock speakers are selected for constant moisture and winter exposure. The dock then appears as a zone in the same app as your kitchen, so it turns on the same way everything else does.
The lake-facing glass makes the room hot and washed out. What helps?
- Motorized shades, placed and scheduled properly, do more than any display upgrade. They cut heat and glare during the hours you actually use the room and lift again when the light softens, without anyone remembering to do it. We also position screens and projectors against the room's real orientation, so the picture holds up in daylight instead of only after dark.
How do you handle a house that has been added onto over the years?
- Carefully, and with the routes traced before anything is cut. Additions change framing, step ceiling heights and break the clean vertical chases a single-era house gives you, so we map the paths during the walk. Where a pull is genuinely impractical, wireless lighting and networked audio cover that room, and the experience is the same for you.
Do you service this side of the metro?
- Yes. Weatherby Lake is a normal run north from our Overland Park design center, and Northland work is regular territory for us. Most problems are handled remotely because the network and control system are monitored. When hands are needed we schedule a visit, and every system carries a five-year workmanship warranty plus manufacturer warranties on the products.
