How do you get internet coverage across several acres?
- With cable in the ground wherever we can. Buried conduit to the shop, the barn or the gate, with a small switch and a wired access point at each end, gives coverage that behaves the same in July as in January. Point-to-point wireless links cover the spans that cannot be trenched. Repeating a household router across a field is the one approach that reliably disappoints.
What about power flickers and storms out here?
- We plan for them. The rack lands on protected power with real surge handling and proper grounding, equipment is sequenced so it restarts in the right order, and the system is monitored remotely so we see an outage rather than hearing about it a week later. On rural overhead service this is the difference between a system that recovers by itself and one that needs a visit.
Can I see the gate and the barn from my phone?
- Yes, and from the same app that runs the lights and audio. Cameras are placed on the approaches that matter, aimed and lit so the night image is actually usable, and recorded on site rather than to a clip subscription. Access control at the gate can join the same system, so unlocking for a delivery does not mean opening another application.
