Lawrence · Douglas County
Lawrence · from the Alvamar gates to the historic core.
IntegrateIT is a home automation and AV integrator serving Lawrence, Kansas, a straight run west on the highway from the design center at 15108 Glenwood Ave, Overland Park, close enough that we schedule it like a home market. The town splits into two jobs: full systems in the gated Alvamar custom homes west of town, and careful retrofit through plaster near Massachusetts Street. Control4 Platinum Dealer, Crestron Elite Partner, Lutron Certified Dealer, CEDIA member, HTA Certified. Five-year workmanship warranty. (913) 804-7575.
Lawrence splits cleanly into two housing markets that need different work. West of town, between the university and Clinton Lake, the Alvamar neighborhoods hold gated, golf-adjacent custom homes, largely built from the nineteen-eighties onward with the volume and the framing to carry a full system. Closer in, this Douglas County college town shows its preservation streak, with late-nineteenth and early-twentieth-century houses around Massachusetts Street and Mount Oread built of plaster and stone foundations with no conduit anywhere. From our Overland Park design center it is a straight run west on the highway, close enough that we schedule it like a home market.
Installing in Lawrence
What is different about Lawrence houses
Installing in west Lawrence is different because the houses are large, modern and often still open. Custom builds near the golf course have the ceiling heights, the framing and the unfinished lower levels that make a full system straightforward: structured cable to every display, keypad, speaker and access point, wired lighting zones with a neutral available at the boxes, and a dedicated theater or golf simulator planned into a basement while it is still framed. Getting in before drywall is worth more here than any equipment upgrade later.
The older core is the opposite discipline. Houses near campus and downtown are plaster over lath on stone foundations, with balloon framing in the oldest of them and fire blocking that stops a wall drop without warning. We route from basements and attics, use closet stacks, and put wireless lighting where a switch leg cannot be reached, showing the owner every proposed opening beforehand. Rental-heavy blocks nearby also mean congested airwaves, so channel planning and wired access points matter more than they would in a subdivision.
Two things apply across the whole city. Clinton Lake and the surrounding acreage properties bring outdoor scope with them, which means buried cable to a shop or a dock rather than a repeater on the deck. And the drive matters: the highway from Johnson County is direct enough that we treat Lawrence as regular territory, so service visits get scheduled properly instead of waiting for a route to fill. That changes what is reasonable to install here.

Questions from Lawrence homeowners
Do you treat Lawrence as a regular service area or an occasional trip?
- As regular territory. The highway run west from our Overland Park design center is direct, so site walks and service visits are scheduled the same way as a Johnson County job rather than batched into a route. Our own crew does the work. The site walk is at no cost and ends in a written proposal with one fixed price.
Can an older house near campus take a full system?
- Yes, with a careful method. Plaster over lath on a stone foundation rules out casual fishing, so cable comes from the basement and the attic, closet stacks handle vertical runs, and wireless Lutron lighting covers rooms where the switch leg cannot be reached. We show you every proposed opening on the walk. If a run is not realistic we say so rather than opening a wall on a hope.
We are building west of town. What is worth doing at framing?
- Everything structural to the system. Cable to every display, speaker, keypad, camera and access-point location, conduit toward future additions, and a wired lower level even if the theater or golf simulator is years away. Swing clearance and ceiling height are measurements best taken while the walls are open. It is the cheapest and most consequential phase of the whole project.
Our Wi-Fi is unusable near campus. Is that fixable?
- Usually, and the cause is normally congestion rather than the equipment. Dense blocks with many separate networks crowd the airwaves, so the fix is deliberate channel planning, wired access points at lower power in the right places, and a separate lane for smart devices. Adding a stronger router into a crowded band tends to make the problem worse rather than better.
