Shawnee · Johnson County

Shawnee · the full stack, designed to disappear.

IntegrateIT is a home automation and AV integrator serving Shawnee, Kansas, a short drive northwest of the design center at 15108 Glenwood Ave, Overland Park. The same city holds three generations of wiring, so the survey comes before the quote: system takeovers that reuse sound existing cable and replace end-of-life equipment, whole-home automation with lighting control, and access points placed by level including the outdoor areas. Control4 Platinum Dealer, Crestron Elite Partner, Lutron Certified Dealer, CEDIA member, HTA Certified. Five-year workmanship warranty. (913) 804-7575.

Shawnee covers more ground than most Johnson County cities, running from an old town center near Nieman Road all the way west toward K-7 and the Lake Quivira area. That span produces an unusually wide housing mix: 1950s and 1960s ranches near the core, heavy subdivision building through the 1990s and 2000s, and newer estate-scale construction on the western edge. Basements are near universal. It is a short drive northwest of our Overland Park design center.

Installing in Shawnee

What is different about Shawnee houses

Installing here is different because the same city holds three generations of wiring. A ranch near the old town center has no useful low-voltage infrastructure at all. A house from the late nineties usually has cable to a couple of rooms and a dead panel in a closet. A recent build on the west side may be ready for anything. We survey what is already in the walls before designing, because reusing good existing cable is often the cheapest part of a project.

The nineties and 2000s subdivision homes are the recurring job: systems installed decades ago whose hardware is now at end of life. The structured cabling in those houses is frequently still good, so the work becomes a takeover rather than a rebuild. We pull the dead equipment, test what the walls already carry, and put a current Control4 and Lutron system on top of it, which keeps the disruption and the cost down.

Third, these are large multi-level houses and that punishes a single router. Two stories plus a finished lower level, with a detached garage or a deep back yard, needs access points cabled by level instead of one unit fighting through two floors. We plan coverage against the actual floor plan, put the outdoor areas on the list rather than treating them as spillover, and keep smart-home devices on their own network lane.

Questions from Shawnee homeowners

Our system is from the early 2000s and the company that installed it is gone. What now?

That is a frequent call in Shawnee. We adopt Control4, Lutron and Crestron systems built by other integrators. It starts with a visit to document the racks, the panel and the cable, followed by a plain list of what is worth keeping.

Is the wiring already in our house usable?

Often more of it than you would guess. Cable installed in the nineties and 2000s is frequently intact and correctly run, even when the equipment on both ends is dead. We test it rather than assume, and reusing it removes most of the invasive work from a project. Where a run is bad or missing, we say so and price the replacement separately.

Wi-Fi is fine upstairs but useless in the basement and the yard. Why?

Because one access point cannot serve a multi-level house plus the ground outside it. Floors, ductwork and grade all absorb the signal. Cabling a point to the lower level and one toward the back of the house fixes it properly, and the devices then hand off cleanly as you move instead of clinging to a distant radio.

Do you work on the older ranches near the town center too?

Yes, and they are a straightforward retrofit. Routing goes through the basement and attic, wireless lighting handles the rooms where a run is not practical, and the equipment sits in one ventilated spot. The scope tends to be lighting, a few audio zones, cameras and a real network, which is the right amount of system for those houses.
