The installer left. The system is still yours, and it still has to work. IntegrateIT services and takes over existing Savant systems across the Kansas City metro from Overland Park, and is straight with you about the line. Our manufacturer authorizations are Control4 (Platinum), Crestron and Lutron; Savant is not one of them. So what we offer on a Savant system is service, support and adoption: the network and infrastructure underneath it, the hardware in it, the subsystems around it, and a documented plan if you decide the control layer should move. What we will not do is promise programming work that needs credentials we do not hold. Every install carries a five-year workmanship warranty. The equipment carries its manufacturer warranty. What we can and cannot do on a Savant system

This is the section other integrators leave off. Platform makers gate parts of their programming behind channel credentials, and being specific about which side of that line your request falls on is not a weakness in the offer — it is the offer.

What we can do

• Diagnose and repair the network and infrastructure. This is where most failures actually live. Systems that start dropping subsystems, responding late, or half-firing scenes were usually sized for the device count they had on install day, on consumer-grade routing and a single access point — the failure pattern is the same across every platform. Rebuilding that layer is work we do every week.
• Replace failed hardware and repair the wiring. Controllers, amplifiers, power supplies, touch panels, cabling. Re-termination and certification of runs that were never done properly, and replacement of the parts that have simply reached end of life.
• Service and integrate the subsystems around it. Lighting and shades, distributed audio, video distribution, surveillance, entry, the structured network. Much of what an owner experiences as “the Savant system” is actually these, and they are ours to service outright.
• Keep an orphaned system alive. When the original installer is gone, someone has to answer the phone. We audit the installation, document what is there, and take responsibility for keeping it running — with proactive monitoring and priority support once it is on our books.
• Plan and execute a migration. Where the answer is that the control layer should move, we design the migration onto Control4, Crestron Home or Lutron HomeWorks, keeping the wire, the speakers and the displays.

What we will not promise

• Programming that requires credentials we do not hold. Some changes on a Savant system are reachable only through the manufacturer’s channel. If your request is one of them, you will hear that from us before you spend money, not after.
• New Savant installations. For a new system we recommend among the platforms we hold authorizations for, because a recommendation you cannot be supported on is worth nothing. That is a deliberate limit, not an oversight.
• A quote without an audit. Nobody can price an inherited system from a phone call. Anyone who does is pricing an imaginary one.

Keep the Savant, or migrate?

Savant’s reputation is built on presentation — a polished interface and a premium feel — and it appeals to owners who care most about how the system looks and behaves day to day. That is a real strength and it does not evaporate because the installer left. The question is narrower than “which platform is best”: it is whether the system you already own can be kept changeable at a cost that makes sense.

• Keep it when the faults are infrastructure-level. Dropouts, latency, scenes that half-fire, a controller that has to be power-cycled — these are usually the network and the wiring, and replacing the control platform would be an expensive way to fix a switch.
• Keep it when you rarely need changes. A system that does what you want, in a house that is not being remodeled, is a maintenance relationship rather than a rebuild. Service it and leave it alone.
• Migrate when you keep hitting changes you cannot get made. If every request stalls, you do not own a smart home, you own a recording of one. The comparison worth running at that point is against a migration, not against doing nothing.
• What a migration involves. Moving an older Crestron, Savant or hodgepodge setup onto Control4 reuses the existing wiring wherever we can, and what stays decides the number. Where wire is missing and walls cannot be opened, Control4 with Lutron RadioRA 3 gets close to the new-construction experience without opening them. We price it after the audit, not before.

What a Savant takeover involves

• 1. Establish what can be recovered. Before anything else we find out what programming and documentation exists and who holds it. On the platforms we hold authorizations for, the original files transfer to a new dealer of record — that is the mechanism, and it is worth asking about on any system. What transfers on yours is a question the audit answers rather than one we will guess at.
• 2. A paid on-site audit. A technician maps the real installation: hardware and locations, how it is wired, what is on the network, which subsystems still respond, what is failing, what documentation survived. It is paid because it is real work, and the map belongs to you either way. Our Crestron takeover protocol uses a two-day version of exactly this.
• 3. Then service, under our name. Break-fix, hardware, infrastructure, the surrounding subsystems, monitoring, and a documented owner’s handover — calibration, on-site training and full documentation living at the house. From there the work carries a five-year workmanship warranty, the equipment carries its manufacturer warranty, and you have our support for as long as you own the system.
