Below: why the walkout is the first question in a Lee's Summit theater, the two measurements that settle projector versus display, how the theater ties into the rest of the house, how service works at forty minutes, and six questions people here ask before calling anyone.

What a home theater project in Lee's Summit involves

Lee's Summit houses are stick-framed with full basements, and many of the newer ones are walkouts on rolling ground. That gives a theater two possible homes. The interior side of the basement, away from the glass, is dark, enclosed and ready for a dedicated room. The walkout side is bright and beautiful, with a glass wall pointed at the yard, which is exactly wrong for a projector unless the light is controlled.

So the first decision is placement. We either automate the shades on the walkout glass and choose optics for the light that remains, or we place the dedicated theater on the interior side and let the daylight room be a family space with a large display. Both are good outcomes. The mistake is a projector on the glass side with nothing between it and the afternoon.

Then the measurements. Clear height under the lowest duct run and the beams, and the throw from the back wall to the screen wall, settle projection versus display, the number of rows and whether an overhead Atmos layout fits. Those numbers are taken with a tape on the first visit, before any product is named.

  • Dedicated theater. On the interior side of the basement: light-controlled, acoustically treated, tiered seating and an overhead immersive layout where the ceiling height allows.
  • Walkout media room. A large display in the daylight room, with motorized shades on the glass so the picture holds up in the afternoon.
  • Projection with shades. A projector in a walkout room once the shades are automated and the screen and optics are chosen for the light that remains.

Concealment, treatment and the room itself

Architectural speakers from Sonance and Triad finish flush and can be painted into the ceiling plane; the work is in the backing and in coordinating the cutouts with whoever finishes the drywall. The rack lives outside the room, in a ventilated closet or the mechanical room, so its fans do not become part of the noise floor and the furnace does not cycle mid-film on the other side of a thin wall.

Treatment planned at rough-in is inexpensive and invisible. A rectangular basement room with hard surfaces is predictable, which helps, and reflective, which does not. First-reflection points, the back wall and the ceiling in front of the screen do more for how a film sounds than the next equipment tier would. Calibration comes last, after the seats are in, from the actual listening positions.

A theater never stops at its door. The lights come down on the same press that starts the film, so the room's scenes belong to the house lighting system. The shades on the walkout glass close on the same press. And the control system makes one button do all of it, or the family defaults to the television upstairs.

Built to be serviced from forty minutes away

The drive from Overland Park is a design constraint, and a theater is the room where it shows first: an HDMI handshake that stops working, a processor that needs a firmware update, a projector that will not wake. We build the rack so the equipment reports its own health and can be power-cycled remotely, and we document what is in it so the next person can read it.

Our own crew does the work rather than subcontractors, the wiring is photographed before it disappears behind drywall, and the proposal carries one fixed price for equipment, labor and timeline, written after the walk rather than estimated over email. When someone does need to be on site, the visit is scheduled. The workmanship warranty is five years.

Control4, Crestron and Lutron in Lee's Summit

IntegrateIT is a Control4 Platinum Dealer with a Control4 Certified Showroom, a Crestron Elite Partner and a Lutron Certified Installer, so the platform is chosen for the house rather than for the dealer. Here is what each one does for home theater installation in Lee's Summit.

Control4

Control4 runs a Lee's Summit theater from one press: the Movie scene wakes the projector or display, sets the processor, closes the walkout shades and brings the lights down, and the family uses the same remote as the rest of the house. Because the drive is long, the theater rack reports to the network, so a projector that will not wake or a stuck input can often be cleared remotely before a visit is booked.

How Control4 works

Crestron

Crestron fits a dedicated theater on the interior side of an estate-scale Lee's Summit basement, where seating rows, screen masking, a processor and the lighting need timing and conditions no preset offers. We write Crestron Home and SIMPL programming in house, engrave each keypad for what it does in your room, and document the program so the theater is never orphaned by whoever built it.

How Crestron works

Lutron

Lutron controls the light that decides whether a walkout theater works. Sivoia QS shades close the glass before the picture comes up, and HomeWorks QSX or RadioRA 3 dims step lights and sconces smoothly to levels low enough to watch by. Control4 or Crestron calls the scene and Lutron executes it, and the shades keep their afternoon schedule on the astronomical clock when nobody is watching.

What we can honestly claim in Lee's Summit

The honest answer: our published Lee's Summit projects are network, camera, security, video and audio work, and none of them is a home theater, so we are not going to describe one we have not built. What is true is that the showroom and design center at 15108 Glenwood Ave in Overland Park is about forty minutes away, and a Control4 theater scene can be tried there before anything is specified. The dedicated theater we would ask you to look at is in Leawood: a room of roughly two thousand four hundred square feet with a Dolby Atmos 7.4.4 layout, Control4 control, Sonance speakers and the equipment concealed.

Nearby: we work throughout Lee's Summit — the old downtown core, the subdivisions built around it over the decades and the estate-scale new construction near the lakes included — from the design center at 15108 Glenwood Ave in Overland Park.

Lee's Summit questions

Who installs home theaters in Lee's Summit, Missouri?

IntegrateIT designs and installs home theaters in Lee's Summit from a showroom and design center at 15108 Glenwood Ave in Overland Park, about forty minutes away. Dedicated basement theaters, walkout media rooms and projection rooms with motorized shades, with Sony or JVC projection, Stewart Filmscreen screens and Sonance or Triad architectural speakers — Sony, JVC and Stewart Filmscreen are lines we carry through distribution. Our credentials: Control4 Platinum Dealer with a Control4 Certified Showroom, Crestron Elite Partner, Lutron Certified Installer. Daniel Alon walks every room, the site walk is at no cost, and the workmanship warranty is five years. Call (913) 804-7575.

Can our walkout lower level be a theater?

It can, once the light is handled. A walkout room has a glass wall to the yard, so we either automate shades and choose a screen and optics for the light that remains, or build the dedicated theater on the interior side of the basement and give the walkout room a large display. Then we measure clear height under the ductwork and beams, which decides whether an overhead Atmos layout fits.

Projector or large display for a Lee's Summit basement?

Two measurements settle it: clear height under the lowest duct run, and the throw distance from the back wall to the screen wall. An interior room with the height and the depth takes a projector and a proper screen; a lower or brighter room is often better as a media room built around a large direct-view display, and that is not a downgrade. We take both measurements with a tape on the first visit and say which one your room is.

Can the theater equipment be hidden?

Yes. Architectural speakers finish flush into the ceiling and walls, the screen can be masked, and the rack lives outside the room in a ventilated closet or the mechanical room. The constraint is airflow, because heat is what kills electronics, so we plan the concealment and the ventilation together. Keeping the rack out of the room also keeps its fans, and the furnace, out of the film.

How does service work on a theater forty minutes from your office?

We design for the distance. The theater rack sits on the network with power that can be cycled remotely, so a projector that will not wake or an input that stopped answering can often be cleared the same day without a truck. When someone does need to be on site, the visit is scheduled rather than promised inside a two-hour window. The workmanship warranty runs five years, and support continues as long as you own the system.

How much does a home theater cost in Lee's Summit?

We do not publish a range, because the room drives the number more than the equipment list does, and a media room, a dedicated theater and a reference build are three different projects. Construction work in the room is often the larger half. Our cost guide explains what moves it. The site walk is at no cost and ends in a written proposal with one fixed price for equipment, labor and timeline.

Should a Lee's Summit walkout theater use a projector with Lutron shades, or a large display on Control4?

It depends on which side of the Lee's Summit basement the room is on. IntegrateIT measures the ceiling height and the light first: an interior room takes a dedicated projector theater on Control4 or Crestron, while a walkout room with a glass wall works as a projector room when Lutron shades close the glass, or as a media room built around a large display. Daniel walks the space at no cost, the proposal is one fixed price, and you can try a Control4 theater scene in the Glenwood Avenue showroom first.
