Getting the signal to the back of the lot
A detached shop at the back of a half-acre lot is the request we get most often in Olathe, and the answer is almost always a wire. A home network cannot make a slow internet service fast. If the line into the house is the constraint, better access points and a bigger switch will make the house behave predictably but will not add bandwidth, and we would rather say that on the walk than sell hardware against it. What a properly built network does fix is what people actually experience as slowness: a device that will not hold a connection, a call that dies crossing the house, a camera stream that stutters when someone streams a film.
Nor will we promise wireless where a house needs cable. There are rooms — usually over a garage, or at the far end of a long ranch — where the honest answer is that a wire is needed and the route is awkward. Sometimes the right call is to make the run. Sometimes it is to accept good coverage there and put the money where the family actually is. That is a conversation on the walk rather than a line on a specification sheet.
What we do commit to is documentation. The panel is labelled, the runs are recorded and the configuration is written down, so whoever touches it next — us in five years, or someone else — is not reverse-engineering the house. Should the network be run during construction?
Yes, and it is the cheapest moment by a wide margin. All of that is inexpensive with the walls open. After drywall the same capability costs more and the routes narrow, and after hardscape the outdoor half becomes a demolition conversation.
